Perk Up Perkins: Fall Updates

As we wrap up the year, the Perk Up Perkins team is excited to share several meaningful updates that reflect months (and in some cases, years!) of community advocacy, partnership, and persistence.

Overpass Improvements Moving Toward Construction

Our partners leading the Perkins Road Overpass project are making strong progress. The project is anticipated to go out to bid soon, with construction expected to begin in the first quarter.

This work represents a major investment in safety, connectivity, and long-term revitalization of the Perkins corridor and we’re eager to see this next chapter begin.

MoveBR Application Submitted

This October, we officially submitted a MoveBR application with Council Member Jen Racca’s office. This application is a key step in securing funding for improvements along Perkins Road, including accessibility upgrades, walkability enhancements, and of course the cross walk. Thank you to everyone who provided data, testimony, documentation, and encouragement throughout the application process. And at the Southside Civic Association meeting this fall, Council Member Racca provided residents with updates on the forthcoming crosswalk installation at Perkins & Ferndale.

Supporting Capital Funding for Sidewalk Improvements

In addition to the MoveBR submission, our team worked with Council Member Racca’s office to prepare narrative support for a capital outlay request that would further fund sidewalk improvements in the corridor.

Safe sidewalks aren’t cosmetic—they are quality-of-life infrastructure. They allow:

  • Kids to walk or bike safely

  • Residents with mobility devices to move independently

  • Families to access restaurants, parks, and local businesses

  • Neighborhoods to thrive with dignity and connection

A Community Effort

Every step forward is the result of collaborative work among residents, business owners, advocates, organizations, and elected leaders. In the coming months, we’ll continue sharing opportunities to give feedback, walk the corridor with us, and celebrate implementation milestones as they take shape. Thank you!
